What is a Windows alternative to Wispr Flow?

Wispr Flow is a voice dictation app built primarily for macOS. As of mid-2026 the Windows version is still in beta and runs through the cloud, meaning your audio is uploaded to Wispr's servers for processing. Windows users who want the same workflow with full local processing have a direct counterpart: StarWhisper.

StarWhisper is a Windows-only desktop app that uses OpenAI's Whisper model running locally via whisper.cpp. You press a hotkey, speak, and the transcribed text is pasted into the active text field, including ChatGPT, VS Code, Word, Slack, email, and many other apps. The free tier covers 500 words per day with no account, no credit card, and no internet connection required after install for Local Mode. The Pro tier costs 10 USD per month or 80 USD per year and removes the word limit, unlocks all five Whisper model sizes (Tiny through Large), and adds file transcription for WAV, MP3, and video.

Compared to Wispr Flow on Windows, StarWhisper has three concrete differences: Local Mode does not upload audio for transcription, there is a usable free tier rather than a time-limited trial, and CUDA acceleration on NVIDIA GPUs can make larger models much faster. Wispr Flow's strengths, namely its polished Mac UI and team features, do not translate to Windows yet.

If you came from a Wispr Flow recommendation expecting a Mac-quality experience, StarWhisper is a close functional match for Windows: hotkey-driven dictation, broad app compatibility, and Whisper-based transcription. If you specifically want a hosted SaaS with team management and you are willing to upload audio to a vendor, Wispr Flow's Windows beta may be the more direct fit; otherwise, StarWhisper is worth evaluating.
